Manchester United midfielder, Sofyan Amrabat, may encounter competition for a position in the starting XI during the winter transfer window, according to The Mirror.

The Manchester United recruitment department is hopeful of securing a new midfielder to replace the Moroccan in January. There is uncertainty within the club about whether Amrabat meets the standards set by United. It is added that the performance of the 27-year-old midfielder has left the head coach, Erik ten Hag, disconcerted, especially considering their past collaboration in Utrecht.

In the current campaign, Amrabat has featured in 12 matches without contributing directly to goals.

Sofiane emerged through the youth system of Utrecht, making his debut in the Eredivisie on November 2, 2014, in a match against Vitesse. In January 2020, he was acquired by the Italian club Fiorentina but was loaned to Hellas Verona. From the beginning of the 2020/21 season, he has been a key player in Fiorentina's first team.

During the 2020/21 season, he played in 31 Serie A matches, receiving 7 yellow cards. On February 14, 2022, in the closing moments of a Serie A match against Spezia (2-1), he scored his first goal for Fiorentina.

On September 1, 2023, he embarked on a season-long loan to the English club Manchester United with a purchase option until the end of the season. However, it is likely that this option will not be activated.
