Manchester United demands meeting with refereeing chief: club seeks answers after series of controversial decisions https://x.com/MirrorFootball/status/2001698843990335603?s=20

Manchester United has lodged complaints, claiming that throughout the season the Red Devils have repeatedly been on the wrong end of refereeing mistakes that could have cost them crucial points.

Details: According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United’s management plans to hold talks with Premier League referees’ chief Howard Webb early in the new year following a string of contentious decisions that, in the club’s view, went against the team.

The meeting with Webb, who heads the PGMO, is expected to focus on getting to the bottom of these decisions. While Rúben Amorim is not directly involved in this initiative, the club’s leadership is increasingly frustrated by the growing number of controversial incidents. For instance, in October, Webb admitted that Nathan Collins of Brentford was unjustly sent off for a foul on Bryan Mbeumo in the penalty area, leaving United without a deserved numerical advantage in a match they eventually lost 1-3.

The club has pointed to other mistakes as well, notably: in the match against West Ham, United believed former Red Devil Aaron Wan-Bissaka should have been shown a second yellow card for a late challenge on Patrick Dorgu, and in the clash with Wolverhampton, VAR failed to instruct referee Michael Salisbury to review a penalty decision for a handball by defender Emmanuel Agbadou. PGMO has acknowledged these errors.

Nevertheless, Manchester United’s management feels the issues are not being resolved, and the standard of refereeing remains poor. At the upcoming meeting with Webb, the club intends to demand explanations and emphasize that their patience has run out.

Reminder: Former Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini has joined the Charleroi coaching staff.
