England’s elite clubs are kicking off a high-stakes transfer war for the right to sign one of Europe’s most promising holding midfielders.
Details: According to The Independent, Manchester United and Tottenham are actively working on a summer move for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba.
The London “Spurs” have shifted into top gear, seriously testing the waters for the 22-year-old Cameroonian’s transfer right after officially securing their Premier League status.
The driving force behind this potential deal is Tottenham’s new manager Roberto De Zerbi—the Italian tactician is a huge admirer of Baleba’s talent, having worked with him during their time together on the south coast with the “Seagulls.”
However, landing this rising star will be incredibly challenging and expensive. Brighton’s management will demand a fee in excess of £100 million. The Cameroonian is tied down by a long-term contract, and the “Seagulls” won’t let him go without a record-breaking compensation.
It’s worth noting that this season the Cameroonian midfielder has made 35 appearances for Brighton, though he hasn’t contributed any goals or assists. Transfermarkt currently values the player at €55 million.
For the record: Manchester United have opened talks over a new contract with midfielder Bruno Fernandes.
