Bayern split over Tuchel, City already in second place in the EPL. Daily Digest for 20 February 2024

The team Dailysports has compiled a traditional digest of the most interesting football news for February 20th.

Two more matches of the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League took place. Both games turned out to be not very effective, as for the main European club tournament. In the match between PSV and Borussia Dortmund the teams scored one goal each (1-1 draw), and in the match between Inter Milan and Atlético Madrid everything was decided by one goal (1-0 in favour of the Serie A leaders). The return matches in these pairs will take place on 13 March.

Man City defeated Brentford and climbed to second place in the EPL. "Citizens" should have played the match of the 18th round of the EPL back in December, but because of the Club World Cup the game was postponed. In a difficult meeting, "bees" conceded only one goal: Erling Håland in the middle of the second half, realised a one-on-one exit. City are now one point behind Liverpool.

First Summer Transfer for Manchester City. Manchester City has completed its first summer transfer by finalizing a deal for Brazilian winger Trua Savio, who has been on loan at Girona. Savio has signed a contract effective from July 1st.

Arsenal Extends Tomiyasu's Contract. Arsenal has extended its contract with defender Takehiro Tomiyasu. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, the new agreement was reached in the last two weeks, and Arsenal will soon officially announce the extension of their collaboration with the Japanese player.

Manchester City Seeks to Extend Haaland's Contract. Manchester City intends to begin negotiations with star striker Erling Haaland regarding a new contract. Haaland's current agreement with Man City runs until the summer of 2027, with a release clause of €200 million set for 2025.

Division in Bayern Munich. Dissatisfaction with Bayern Munich's results and a tense atmosphere within the team have led to a division among players. Some players continue to support head coach Thomas Tuchel, while others advocate for his departure.

According to Bild, players supporting Tuchel include Manuel Neuer, Raphael Guerreiro, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sane, Harry Kane, and Eric Dier. Among those against Tuchel are Thomas Müller, Joshua Kimmich, Matthijs de Ligt, Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, and Mathis Tel.

Arsenal Eyes Aston Villa Forward. Arsenal is considering a move for Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins for £85 million. According to reports, the London club has already made contact with the player regarding a potential transfer.
