Manchester City is interested in Chelsea's full-back Ian Maatsen, as reported by The Athletic.

According to sources, Pep Guardiola's team may have to persuade the Londoners to sell the 21-year-old Dutchman because other main full-backs are currently injured — Marc Cucurella is out for several months due to ankle surgery, and Ben Chilwell continues his recovery from a serious knee ligament injury.

Burnley is also reportedly another contender for Maatsen. In the summer, the player rejected an offer from Burnley, but Vincent Kompany's team may attempt to sign the player again. This season, Ian has played 14 matches (320 minutes) — three in the English League Cup and 11 in the Premier League. He has yet to register any goals or assists.

It's worth noting that Ian Maatsen came through the ranks of Rotterdam football, playing for the youth teams of Feyenoord and Sparta. In 2018, the player joined Chelsea's academy.

In the 2022/23 season, the defender started as a player for Burnley, where he was loaned from Chelsea. Maatsen, as part of Burnley, won the Championship and helped the team secure promotion to the Premier League.
