Jadon Sancho's loan move to Chelsea in London has come as quite a surprise, despite the winger's previously reported reconciliation with Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag. But, Red Devils sporting director Dan Ashworth assures that the loan of the winger has its reasons.

‘We felt we had enough depth in that position to be able to cover it. We have four really good wide players, Jaydon was the fifth, and it just allowed us to make the decision that if it was good for him and good for us, then we were willing to consider that option.’

Ashworth also assures that a loan does not close the door for Sancho to Manchester United's main squad in principle:

‘It's irrelevant. It was a decision we made - if it's right for Jaydon and right for us, we have to move on. He wanted to explore opportunities at Chelsea, like Scott wanted to explore opportunities at Napoli, like Aaron wanted to explore opportunities at West Ham. We are in no position to kick players out of the club,’ Ashworth is quoted as saying by 90min.
