Mamelodi Sundowns could lose their coach. Cardoso close to departure

Miguel Cardoso has attracted interest from an Egyptian giant.
Details: According to Al-Masry Al-Youm, a source from Zamalek revealed that the club is actively searching for a new head coach for the upcoming season, and the Sundowns manager is one of the main contenders for the job.
“At the moment, Zamalek’s board is reviewing the CVs of several coaches, with the shortlist now down to just three candidates. One of the agents has put forward Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso, who is currently in charge of South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, as a leading candidate for Zamalek’s head coach next season,” the source reported.
The source also claims that the decision on the new head coach is nearly finalized, and the official announcement of who will lead Zamalek into the next season is expected on Monday:
“It is expected that John Edward, the club’s sporting director, together with the planning committee, will complete the appointment in the coming days. The new manager is set to be officially unveiled next Monday.” the source teased.
Recently, Zamalek parted ways with another Portuguese coach, José Peseiro, who had been in charge since January 2025 but was dismissed due to poor results.
Miguel Cardoso took the reins of the South African powerhouse in December 2024, quickly clinched the national championship, and also led the team to the FIFA Club World Cup in the USA.
