The president of the South African Football Association (Safa), Danny Jordaan, is facing a fraud lawsuit for R1.3 million. Mama Joy Chauke, the secretary general of the South African National Association of Supporters Union (SANASU), has publicly defended Jordaan.

Jordaan, along with Safa CFO Gronie Hluyo and businessman Trevor Neethling, was arrested last month on charges of fraud and misusing the organisation’s resources for personal gain. The allegations include hiring a private security company and a public relations firm without the Safa Board’s authorisation. Jordaan is currently out on R20,000 bail.

The trio appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Palm Ridge on Tuesday, seeking to have the charges struck off the roll, but their attempt was unsuccessful.

Mama Joy took to social media platform X to voice her unwavering support for Jordaan, stating:
“Supporting my President at Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court. I still say hands off my President, Danny Jordaan. I’m asking the court to drop the charges, have patience, and wait for the court to prove that he is guilty. For now, hands off!”

Meanwhile, Safa CEO Lydia Monyepao confirmed to Sunday World that there are outstanding payments to Bafana Bafana players, including bonuses and daily allowances, though she noted that some payments have been made.

As the case continues, Jordaan and his co-accused face mounting scrutiny, while supporters like Mama Joy rally behind the embattled Safa president.
