Mali Seeks New Vision for Football Amid Leadership and Structural Challenges
FEMAFOOT, the Malian Football Federation, is seeking a new National Technical Director (NTD) to address significant issues in the nation's football system. Despite the Eagles' qualification for CAN 2024, a recent discussion showed that a major factor in Malian teams' poor performance is the lack of a functional NTD. The new NTD will be responsible for improving football development across the country. They must have deep knowledge of Malian football and a lot of experience in the sport.
Meanwhile, FEMAFOOT President Mamoutou Touré, currently detained on charges of embezzlement and forgery, has withdrawn from his candidacy for FIFA and CAF roles. Touré’s resignation letter cited his ongoing detention and health issues as barriers to fulfilling his duties. His re-election in August, conducted under controversial circumstances, has stirred significant debate.
Touré’s legal troubles, coupled with structural football challenges, cast uncertainty over the future of Malian football. The Federation aims to stabilize the sport both domestically and internationally, ensuring a more transparent and effective framework moving forward.
