Reports say the conflict arose after Lukaku left Naples for Belgium during the international break without informing or coordinating with anyone at the club.
The Napoli coaching staff sensed something was wrong when Romelu did not show up at the training facility for the scheduled session. Later, the striker got in touch with the staff and revealed he was in Belgium, which left the club’s management furious.
For this act of insubordination, the Napoli board is considering three possible sanctions for Lukaku: the first and most severe is a complete suspension from the squad; the second is a hefty fine; and the third is to try and smooth things over to avoid disrupting the team's morale ahead of the season's run-in.
Romelu Lukaku has missed most of the current season due to a hamstring injury. The Belgian forward has appeared in just 7 matches for the Neapolitans this season and scored 1 goal.
Lukaku’s current contract with Napoli runs until the summer of 2027, and his market value is estimated by Transfermarkt at 12 million euros.
Reminder: After 280 days. Lukaku scores for Napoli for the first time since last May
