Lucas Cepeda Turns Down Offer Abroad to Stay at Colo Colo
Colo Colo president Aníbal Mosa confirmed on Sunday that rising star Lucas Cepeda has declined an international transfer offer and will remain with the club for the rest of the 2025 season. Speaking to Radio ADN, Mosa revealed that the decision was made in agreement with the player and his representatives, emphasizing that both parties felt it was not yet the right time to make a move abroad.
“Lucas has a tremendous future and he knows he hasn’t reached his full potential,” Mosa said. “When the offer came in, we all agreed it wasn’t the right moment.” While the name of the interested club wasn’t disclosed, Cepeda had previously been linked to River Plate earlier this year.
The news comes as Colo Colo prepares to face Atlético Bucaramanga in their Copa Libertadores opener. Cepeda, who recently recovered from illness, is expected to start and play a key role in Jorge Almirón’s plans for the tournament. The decision to stay is seen as a boost for the squad as they embark on a crucial campaign.
Born in Viña del Mar, Cepeda is under contract with Colo Colo until the end of 2026. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value is €1.3 million, a figure that could rise significantly depending on his performance in this year’s Libertadores.
