LPF Semifinals Set Stage for Thrilling Showdowns in Panama

The Panamanian Football League (LPF) is set to determine the finalists for its 2025 Apertura Tournament this weekend, as reported by EFE. With the second legs of the semifinals approaching, all eyes are on the teams vying for a spot in the final of Panama’s top-tier competition.
On Friday, Plaza Amador will host Tauro FC in the second act of the Panamanian clásico. Plaza holds a slight edge after a 2-1 away win in the first leg, breaking a three-match winless streak against their historic rivals. With the support of their home crowd, the “leones” will look to seal their third consecutive trip to the final.
However, Tauro brings its own pedigree, having defeated Plaza Amador in the Apertura 2024 final to lift the title. They’ll aim for a similar comeback this time around.
Saturday’s matchup will see CD Universitario take on San Francisco FC to decide the second finalist. The tie remains even after a draw in the first leg. San Francisco, led by Colombian coach Nilton Bernal, hopes to return to a final for the first time since the 2020 Clausura.
Meanwhile, CD Universitario — guided by Venezuelan Ángel Sánchez — is aiming to reach its second-ever final since rising to the first division. The club last reached the title match in the 2022 Clausura, where they fell to CAI.
The stage is set for a dramatic weekend that will shape the championship picture in Panamanian football.
