Lookman’s Disallowed Goal Sparks Debate in Atalanta–Chelsea Clash
Former Tottenham captain Michael Dawson has reacted to Ademola Lookman’s disallowed goal in Atalanta’s 2-1 win over Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League. Lookman thought he had equalised in the 52nd minute after finishing a pass from Davide Zappacosta, but the assistant referee immediately flagged, and the referee confirmed he was marginally offside in the build-up.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Dawson backed the officials, saying: “He's offside. It's similar to the Chelsea goal…”
Despite the setback, Lookman delivered a lively performance, recording one shot on target and several saved attempts while troubling Chelsea’s defence. He linked well with Gianluca Scamacca and Charles De Ketelaere, and will hope to carry his form into the 2025 AFCON after making Nigeria’s 54-man provisional list.
