Ademola Lookman’s impressive comeback continued on Sunday as he scored again in Atalanta’s 2-0 win over Fiorentina in Bergamo. The Nigerian forward, who also netted and provided an assist in the midweek 3-0 Champions League victory at Eintracht Frankfurt, grabbed his second goal in two games with a simple tap-in in the 51st minute. His effort doubled the lead after Odilon Kossounou opened the scoring just before halftime.

The win pushed Atalanta to 11th place with 16 points from 13 Serie A matches. Lookman appears rejuvenated under new coach Raffaele Palladino and is working his way back to the form that earned him the 2024 African Player of the Year award.

Reflecting on his return to form after the Frankfurt match, Lookman said: “You know, what’s happened has happened… some things people know, others they don’t.” He added that “right now is the time to work hard for the team… to get stronger every day.”

His resurgence offers encouragement for the Super Eagles ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Lookman struggled during Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup African playoffs, where he was substituted in both games as the team missed out on qualification.
