Pablo ‘Vitamina’ Sánchez’s tenure at Liga de Quito appears increasingly unstable after another disappointing loss, this time to Mushuc Runa. According to Bolavip, the Ecuadorian giants are now actively considering a coaching change, and several potential replacements have already surfaced.

Among the most notable candidates is Jorge Fossati, who previously led Liga to a league title in 2003 and most recently managed the Peruvian national team. Mundo Deportivo in Quito reports that Fossati is one of the top options being discussed, along with Luis Zubeldía, another former coach with a successful past at the club.

Rubén Darío Insúa, who was considered for the position prior to Sánchez’s arrival, is also back in the conversation. Colombian coach Juan Carlos Osorio, currently a free agent, is another possibility given his international experience.

Should Sánchez be dismissed before a permanent replacement is secured, former goalkeeper Adrián Gabbarini is expected to take over as interim coach, just as he did following Josep Alcácer’s departure in 2023.

Sánchez was hired in June 2024 on a contract through December 2025, but mounting criticism over his handling of the squad — particularly the lack of impactful signings and the disappointing replacements for Piovi and Julio — has placed his job in jeopardy. With pressure rising from fans and the board alike, a managerial change could be imminent.
