Liga BetPlay Revamps Playoff Draw Format for 2025 With Key Structural Change

The Liga BetPlay I-2025 regular season ends this weekend, but the spotlight is on a major format change for the semifinal playoff draw. As reported by Caracol Radio, from this edition onward, teams finishing between third and eighth place will be drawn randomly into either Group A or Group B—abandoning the traditional pairing system used in previous tournaments.
Previously, the draw followed a strict structure: third and fourth were split into different groups, as were fifth and sixth, and seventh and eighth. Now, only the top two teams are guaranteed to head separate groups—Group A and B respectively—and retain the “invisible point” advantage in case of a tie.
This adjustment adds unpredictability and excitement to the playoffs. With América and Tolima already set as group leaders, Nacional, Millonarios, Junior, Santa Fe, and Medellín have secured spots. The final place will be decided between Once Caldas and Deportivo Pasto in Sunday’s decisive fixtures.
