Libya’s Premier League Kicks Off Tomorrow in Historic Expanded Format
On Wednesday, December 11, the opening round of the Libyan Premier League will begin in a brand-new, unheard-of format. With 36 clubs, the league has surpassed both the 28-club Argentine Primera División and the 29-team Major League Soccer in the United States to become the biggest in the world.
The Libyan Football Federation divided the teams into four groups, with Darnes opting to suspend their participation this season. The groups are as follows:
Group A: Al-Nasr, Al-Akhdar, Al-Tahaddi, Al-Anwar, Al-Suqoor, Khaleej Sirte, Wefaq Ajdabiya, Al-Burooq, Al-Ansar.
Group B: Al-Ahly Benghazi, Al-Hilal, Al-Taawun, Al-Sadaqa, Al-Murooj, Al-Branes, Al-Andalus, Al-Mahdiya Sabha.
Group C: Al-Ittihad, Al-Swehly, Al-Olympic, Abu Salim, Al-Bashaer, Al-Majd, Al-Tarsana, Shabab Al-Ghar, Al-Nahda Sabha.
Group D: Al-Ahly Tripoli, Al-Madina, Al-Ittihad Misrata, Al-Malaab Al-Libi, Al-Khums, Al-Asaria, Al-Watan, Abi Al-Ashhar, Al-Zahra.
Four matches will headline the league’s opening day, with Wefaq Ajdabiya hosting Al-Nasr, Abu Salim facing Al-Olympic, Al-Tahaddi meeting Khaleej Sirte, and Shabab Al-Ghar visiting Al-Tarsana.
This historic expansion highlights the league’s ambition to elevate Libyan football and provide a platform for more clubs to compete at the highest level.
