The Libyan national team coach is the subject of controversy regarding his results to date. Indeed, Aliou Cissé has failed to qualify Libya for either the 2026 World Cup or the 2025 Arab Cup. Appointed in March 2025, Aliou Cissé was expected to bring a new dynamic to a Libyan team in turmoil.
Before his arrival, Libya was coming off a dismal run: two defeats and a draw in World Cup qualifying. The Senegalese coach had been recruited to reverse the trend and try to secure a place for the 2026 World Cup.
These two successive failures missing the 2026 World Cup and the 2025 Arab Cup have put new pressure on the coach who led Senegal to the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations title.
