Leipzig shuts down Romano's claims! Club sporting director personally denies Diomande transfer

The Germans decided not to stay silent and set the record straight.

Details: According to Instant Foot, Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schäfer directly refuted Fabrizio Romano’s claim about Yan Diomandé’s move to Real in a conversation with Sky Sport DE. He stated that some so-called transfer experts reported several days ago that the deal was done, or even gave their trademark Here We Go, but this simply does not reflect reality—the parties are not at that stage yet.

Schäfer’s statement is far from the first twist in this drawn-out saga. Back on July 26, Romano announced an agreement between Real and Leipzig worth over €100 million, complete with his signature Here we Go. The very next day, Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg publicly accused the Italian of jumping the gun, insisting that the basic terms of the deal were not agreed at that point. The situation was further complicated by a claim from Diomandé’s former agent, Max Gradel, who alleges that the player breached his contract and has already brought the matter to FIFA. Now, the club itself has stepped into the information war, openly declaring that the finish line in negotiations is still a long way off.

Last season, Diomandé made 36 appearances for Leipzig, scoring 13 goals and providing 10 assists. His contract with the German club runs until 2030. Transfermarkt values the player at €90 million.
