Rumors of Cristiano Ronaldo's return to European football have reignited with fresh intensity.
Details: According to Football Insider, the 41-year-old Ronaldo is dissatisfied with his current situation at Saudi club Al-Nassr and is considering a transfer this summer. The main contender to sign the veteran is said to be London’s Chelsea.
Despite the club’s usual policy of not signing players over 30, the Blues’ management are reportedly ready to make an exception and alter their strict transfer strategy for one of the greatest footballers in history.
Reports suggest Chelsea’s main motivation for targeting Ronaldo is a crisis in their attacking line. Last summer, the club brought in Liam Delap and João Pedro, but the results have been mixed: while Pedro has shown consistent form, Delap has spent most of his time sidelined by injuries.
However, a move to Stamford Bridge is only possible if one firm condition is met. Cristiano Ronaldo and his representatives must agree to a significant wage reduction. The astronomical salary the Portuguese superstar earns in Saudi Arabia is simply incompatible with the London club’s financial structure.
It’s worth noting that this season, the legendary Portuguese has made 26 appearances for the Saudi side across all competitions, scoring 22 goals and providing 4 assists. Transfermarkt currently values him at €12 million.
Reminder: Al-Nassr head coach Jorge Jesus commented on Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury.
