Legendary Oshoala Fires Back-to-Back Hat-Tricks as Echegini Scores First UWCL Goal
Nigeria international Asisat Oshoala struck her second consecutive hat-trick on Wednesday night, powering Al Hilal into the final of the Saudi Women’s Premier Challenge Cup with an emphatic 6–2 victory over Al Ahly.
The six-time African Women’s Player of the Year followed up her treble in a 5–0 quarter-final win over Eastern Flames with another ruthless display, leaving Al Hilal one match away from lifting the trophy. The former Liverpool and Arsenal forward scored twice before the break and dictated play with sharp movement and clinical finishing.
Al Hilal increased their lead early in the second half through Jéssica Silva before Oshoala completed her hat-trick to put the contest beyond doubt. Further goals from Silva and Oshoala sealed a dominant performance.
There will be no all-Nigerian final, however, as Al Nassr swept aside Al Ittihad 5–0 in the other semi-final. Clara Luvanga scored twice, while Andreia Faria, Ruth Kipoyi and Shuruq Al-Hawsawi also found the net.
In Europe, it was a bittersweet night for Jennifer Echegini despite an early breakthrough for Paris Saint-Germain against Benfica. The Super Falcons midfielder scored inside five minutes to register her first UEFA Women’s Champions League goal.
Benfica equalised before half-time from the penalty spot, and a VAR decision ruled out a second-half effort. The 1–1 draw ended both clubs’ European campaigns. PSG will now refocus on domestic fixtures and a Paris derby.
