The Los Angeles Lakers have begun preparations for the upcoming season and participated in the California Classic Summer League last night. In the game against the Sacramento Kings, several young players took to the court, including Bronny James, the son of NBA legend LeBron James.

The young talent spent 21:43 on the court, scoring four points, dishing out four assists, grabbing two rebounds, and making one steal. Bronny also attempted several three-pointers, but was unable to convert any of them.

After the game, Bronny James commented on his performance, acknowledging that not everything went as planned.

"I wasn’t as effective as I wanted to be. I tried to drive to create space for mid-range and three-point shots, but I couldn’t hit from beyond the arc. Repetitions will help smooth out the shooting issues.

Every first game at a new level comes with 'butterflies in the stomach.' But once the game starts, all the nerves go away, and I just play basketball. These feelings will pass."

His father, LeBron James, also praised his son.

"Everything he does in the California Classic Summer League doesn’t matter if he plays well, and it doesn’t matter if he plays poorly. I just want him to grow as a basketball player, in practices, game analysis, and individual workouts. The stats from these tournaments don’t carry over to the regular season. You just need to get better and hone your skills."

LeBron added that he sees progress in his son and is delighted by it.

"It’s wonderful to see my son making his way into the NBA on his own. It’s always been his dream. For us to be side by side, I’m proud of him. Words fail me. The kid has worked so hard to get to this point, and so much has happened to him over the past year."

Despite Bronny James's efforts, the Lakers lost the game to Sacramento 94-108. They have two more matches ahead in the California Classic Summer League against the Golden State Warriors and the Miami Heat.

Bronny James was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 55th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. It was also confirmed yesterday that LeBron James has signed a new contract, meaning we will see the first father-son duo in NBA history when the new season starts in October.
