LeBron James risks missing out on NBA season awards for the first time in 21 years. The reason revealed
Despite LeBron James remaining one of the most prolific players in league history, the 2025/26 season has become the toughest of the 41-year-old Los Angeles Lakers star’s career. Now, for the first time in 21 years, he may walk away empty-handed.
Details: According to SportBIBLE, legendary basketball icon LeBron James could, for the first time in over two decades, become ineligible for voting on NBA season awards. Due to his sporadic appearances this season, LeBron now risks falling short of the NBA’s minimum requirement of 65 games to qualify for end-of-season honors, including All-NBA and All-Star team selections.
At the start of the season, James was sidelined for the first 14 games due to back and leg injuries. After returning in November, he failed to play in any consecutive games, hampered by left ankle arthritis and right leg sciatica. Now, if James misses even one more game before the end of the regular season in April, he will be disqualified from season awards consideration, ending his remarkable 21-season streak of consecutive All-NBA or All-Star selections.
The superstar himself admits that his chances of appearing in every remaining game are slim:
“Every back-to-back until the end of the season is in question. I’m 41, and I’ve logged more minutes than anyone in NBA history.” - said LeBron.
Reminder: The NBA plans to expand to 32 teams.
