Pablo Lavallén is back in Honduran football. As reported by Diez, Marathón officially announced the Argentine coach as their new manager for the Apertura 2025, replacing outgoing Uruguayan tactician Manuel Keosseián.

Lavallén, 52, returns to the Liga Nacional after his brief stint with Olimpia in 2022, where he aimed to secure a fifth straight title following Pedro Troglio’s departure. Though he fell short of that goal, he now embarks on a fresh challenge with Marathón under a two-year deal. The club is expected to unveil him publicly by late June, ahead of preseason training.

A former defender, Lavallén had a playing career with clubs such as River Plate, Atlas, Huracán, and Platense. His managerial path began in 2016 with San Martín and includes spells at Atlético Tucumán, Belgrano, Colón, Melgar, Sarmiento, and most recently, The Strongest.

Marathón, Honduras' oldest football club, will celebrate its 100th anniversary on November 25. The centenary only adds to the urgency of ending a title drought that dates back to March 2018, when Héctor Vargas led the side to its ninth league championship.

Lavallén arrives with one clear mission: to end that seven-year wait and finally deliver the longed-for tenth title to the ‘Green Monster’.
