Last-minute doubts for Independiente ahead of decisive clash against Guaraní
Independiente face a pivotal Copa Sudamericana match on Thursday at 7 PM, hosting Guarani in what could determine their fate in Group A. According to TyC Sports, head coach Julio Vaccari aims to field his strongest lineup but is dealing with two key uncertainties: one due to injury and another tactical.
Felipe Loyola, a core player in Vaccari’s system, has been struggling with back pain and missed full training. His spot was temporarily filled by Pablo Galdames, though Loyola later rejoined the session. In attack, there’s a close battle for the final starting spot between Diego Tarzia and Lautaro Millán, while Santiago Montiel and Matías Giménez Rojas are confirmed starters.
Meanwhile, Iván Marcone will serve the second game of his suspension after being sent off against Guarani in Paraguay. He will be replaced by Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Fernández Cedrés.
Currently, sitting third with six points from four games, Independiente can retake the top spot with a win. A loss or draw, however, would severely damage their hopes of advancing directly to the round of 16.
Independiente's possible starting eleven:
- Rodrigo Rey; Federico Vera, Kevin Lomónaco, Sebastián Valdez, Álvaro Angulo; Felipe Loyola or Pablo Galdames; Rodrigo Fernández Cedrés, Rodrigo Cabral; Santiago Montiel, Matías Giménez Rojas, and Diego Tarzia or Lautaro Millán.
