Lassine Sinayoko makes history and closes in on George Weah’s Ligue 1 record
The Malian international striker struck again on Sunday 1 November, scoring a brace against Monaco. His performance helped his team secure a 3-1 victory on matchday 9 of Ligue 1.
Having joined Paris FC during the last summer transfer window, Lassine Sinayoko has been producing one remarkable performance after another. With eight goals in nine matchdays, he now sits alone at the top of the French league’s scoring charts.
This form has also enabled him to achieve a historic feat. Lassine Sinayoko has become the first African player to score eight goals after nine Ligue 1 matchdays since George Weah in the 1991–1992 season. The former Liberian striker had actually done even better at that stage of the competition, with ten goals to his name.
Spurred on by their Malian striker, Paris FC are also enjoying a remarkable start to the season. The Paris-based club sit fourth in the table after nine matchdays.
