La Liga could be without a head. All because of Real Madrid's complaint
It's a well-known fact that Real Madrid president Florentino Peres and his La Liga counterpart Javier Tebas are at odds, so much so that the capital club boss has complained to the head of Spain's top flight.
As reported by As, the Cream has filed a lawsuit with the Administrative Court of Sport against Tebas because of the club's imputed discrimination. It all started in August 2021 when Tebas called a meeting of La Liga club managers to approve a deal with investment fund CVC.
The call happened eight days before the meeting itself, whereas Spanish law requires that such things be done no earlier than 10 days in advance. However, this meeting did not finalise the deal, and a second meeting was called in December of the same year.
Initially the courts sided with Real, but the re-suits were already in La Liga's favour and the deal remained in place. The deal with CVC involved the exchange of 10% of the audiovisual rights to the Spanish championship in return for €2 billion over the next 50 years.
Real, who offered an alternative plan, tried to appeal the decision, but La Liga won the appeals.
For Tebas himself, however, it could lead to his removal as La Liga president, something he himself says he insists Florentino Perez personally wants to oust him.
