La Liga clubs continue to face significant financial difficulties, and the recently closed winter transfer window further confirmed this trend.
Details: Throughout January, La Liga clubs spent just €26 million on transfers. Remarkably, half of that sum was used by Real Betis to sign forward Cucho Hernández from Columbus Crew.
In total, La Liga clubs spent even less than the 2. Bundesliga clubs, which collectively invested €27.6 million this winter.
For comparison, Premier League clubs spent €365 million during the same transfer window.
Reminder: In the final hours of the transfer window, Barcelona president Joan Laporta teased a signing, but the club ultimately did not make any new acquisitions.
