The coach of Sudan’s national team, Kwesi Appiah, shared his happiness after leading his team to qualify for the 2024 TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN). Sudan won 2-1 in the second match against Ethiopia on December 25th in Benghazi, Libya, giving them a total win of 4-1 over the two games.

Musa Kanti and Mohamed Abdelrahman were on target for Sudan, while Birhanu Bekele scored for Ethiopia. “I am very happy that my team has worked really hard. After qualifying for AFCON 2025, we have now made it to the CHAN 2024 tournament,” said Appiah, who also previously coached the Ghana Black Stars.

Appiah highlighted the effort required to qualify for both the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and CHAN 2024, while also acknowledging the difficulties of playing away from home.

The CHAN 2024 qualifiers in the CECAFA Zone continue on Saturday with Rwanda hosting South Sudan in Kigali. While Uganda, which defeated Burundi 1-0, will play again on December 29, South Sudan leads 3-2 from the first leg in Juba. Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda will co-host the tournament, which is set for February 1–28, 2025, after Tanzania automatically qualified.
