Krunoslav Jurčić Targets Top Spot Despite Pyramids' Qualification
Although Pyramids FC has already qualified for the quarterfinals of the CAF Champions League, Kroatian coach Krunoslav Jurčić stressed the importance of his team's forthcoming encounter against Mali's Djoliba in the last round of Group D.
"We’ve achieved our main goal of advancing, but it’s crucial for us to aim for the top position," Jurčić said in the pre-match press conference. Pyramids, with 10 points, are currently tied with Tunisia's Esperance, who lead the group. The coach pointed out that there are still opportunities to top the group, and a win tomorrow is essential.
"We can’t settle for just qualification. It’s incredible for a relatively new team like Pyramids to be among Africa’s top eight, and we are very proud of the players," Jurčić added.
Despite Djoliba's exclusion from the competition, Jurčić praised the team's strength, especially its youthful players, and promised Pyramids would treat them with respect while pursuing success. In light of recent injuries and upcoming crucial domestic games, he said that he would modify his lineup based on the players that were available.
Goalie Ahmed El Shenawy reiterated his coach's words, emphasizing the importance of the game, particularly given that it would take place at the Military Academy Stadium, the team's home field. In addition, he emphasized the team's progress following injuries sustained early in the season. El Shenawy said, "We're determined to play our usual winning style."
