Koller’s Agency Defends Him After Criticism Following Al Ahly’s Draw with Zamalek
Al Ahly head coach Marcel Koller has come under fire after his team’s 1-1 draw against Zamalek in the Egyptian Premier League, but his agency has issued a strong defense of the Swiss tactician.
The result saw Al Ahly drop points late in the game, sparking frustration among fans. However, Koller’s agency, Fairplay Agency, released a statement via social media, addressing the criticism: "Football is about passion. That’s why I fully understand the high expectations of Al Ahly fans. This club thrives on trophies – and that’s what makes it so special."
The statement went on to highlight how post-match criticism is easy, but making crucial decisions beforehand requires courage and responsibility: "Anyone can point out what should have been done differently after a match. But who has the courage to stand up and say: ‘I would have made the exact same choices, and if it didn’t work, I take full responsibility’?"
Koller’s Work Ethic and Commitment
With the following explanation, the agency highlighted Koller's commitment and tactical planning: "Marcel Koller works nonstop, scrutinizing every detail, preparing late into the night, researching opponents, assessing players, and making decisions to win - not to draw or lose. Of course, hindsight allows for different perspectives, but decisions must be made before the match, not after."
Al Ahly’s Strong Record Under Koller
Despite the disappointment of the draw, the agency reminded fans of Koller’s impressive record, stating: "Yes, we drew. Yes, expectations are high. But when was the last time we lost a match? How often has this team shown its strong character? I remember the criticism after losing to Mamelodi Sundowns – but in the end, we won the CAF Champions League."
The statement ended with a message of unity, urging Al Ahly fans to support the team: "Criticism is part of football, but unity is what makes this club strong. We haven’t lost anything – the season is still long, and we need you! Because what makes Al Ahly special is having the best fans in the world. In the end, results will speak – and we will keep fighting together."
Koller’s Agent Denies Rumors of His Departure
Meanwhile, Dino Lamberti, Koller’s agent, dismissed reports that the Swiss coach is considering leaving Al Ahly. Speaking to MBC Masr 2, he stated: "All the rumors about Koller leaving Al Ahly are false. He is fully committed to the club and understands the fans’ expectations. He is working hard to keep the team at the top and win every possible title."
Lamberti also dismissed claims that Koller lost his passion for the job: "Absolutely not. I speak with him daily, and he takes everything seriously. He is not the kind of coach who shows passion by jumping up and down on the sidelines – he shows it through his hard work and commitment."
When asked about possible new signings before the FIFA Club World Cup, Lamberti responded: "That is a discussion between Koller and the club’s sporting director. He will evaluate if the squad needs reinforcements."
