Kitara FC Set to Face Gor Mahia at Grand Opening of Siaya County Stadium

On January 2, 2025, the newly built Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya County, Kenya, will officially open, and c will play Gor Mahia FC of Kenya in an international friendly.

The stadium, a state-of-the-art facility with a seating capacity of 15,000, is set to revolutionize the sports scene in Western Kenya. An eight-lane athletic track, VIP lounges, floodlights, and improved security are some of its features. The event is anticipated to be officiated by former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, and Kenyan President William Ruto.

For both teams, the friendly game serves as an essential prelude to their respective leagues' second round. Gor Mahia, third in the Kenya Premier League, and Kitara FC, tenth in the Uganda Premier League, will try to use the competition to hone their teams.

The match is also a key highlight of the Piny Luo Festival, an annual celebration of Luo culture, which will showcase traditional food, music, and other activities over three days. The Royals, as Kitara FC is fondly known, will travel to Siaya for the festivities, adding to their impressive 2024 campaign that included a victorious international friendly in Ethiopia.

This game is a prelude to Kitara's January 5 and 9 Uganda Premier League games against the Wakiso Giants and SC Villa, respectively.
