Today at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, the women's 5000-meter final took place.

This race could have been an absolute triumph for the Kenyan athletes, who secured gold and silver. The winner was 24-year-old Beatrice Chebet, earning her first Olympic medal with a time of 14:28.56 minutes.

In the final stretch, Chebet managed to overtake her compatriot Faith Kipyegon, who had previously won Olympic gold in Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro. However, after the race, organizers disqualified Kipyegon for unsportsmanlike conduct—using her elbows to push away Ethiopian runner Medina Eisa in the final meters.

Third place went to Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands, who was awarded the silver medal following Kipyegon's disqualification. The bronze medal then went to Nadia Battocletti of Italy.

This medal is Kenya's first at the current Olympics.
