“Keep Him” – Onyeka Backs Chelle to Stay as Super Eagles Coach
AFCON 2023 silver medallist Frank Onyeka has joined calls urging the Nigerian Football Federation to retain Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle following Nigeria’s impressive run at AFCON 2025 in Morocco.
Chelle, who took charge in January 2025, has been widely praised for instilling a clear philosophy and improving the team’s style of play. Onyeka said Nigeria’s progress was the result of a steady process, not a sudden turnaround.
“I think it was a process… you could see what he wanted to do, his game plan and tactics,” Onyeka told Oma Akatugba, adding that the team “blended” over time and played well at the tournament.
He also highlighted Chelle’s man-management, describing him as “a good man… very open-minded,” before issuing a strong warning: “Don’t let him go.”
Onyeka has three goals in 41 Super Eagles appearances and hopes to secure a regular club role after AFCON 2025.
