Juventus are reportedly targeting Atalanta striker Mateo Retegui as a potential signing for the upcoming transfer window, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. The 25-year-old Argentine-born forward, who has represented Italy since March 2023, is currently the top scorer in Serie A with 23 goals and is enjoying a standout season that has drawn attention from several European clubs.

While Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, remains a priority target for Juventus, Retegui has emerged as a strong alternative. Head coach Igor Tudor is said to be a fan of Retegui’s style and views him as a viable replacement for Dusan Vlahovic, who has yet to agree on a contract renewal and could be sold this summer.

Retegui’s rise has been meteoric. After starting his career in Boca Juniors' youth system and playing briefly for Estudiantes, Talleres, and Tigre—where he scored 35 goals in 70 matches—he moved to Europe and quickly made an impact. He netted nine times in 31 games for Genoa before joining Atalanta, where he has scored 26 goals in just 43 appearances. He recently scored in a dominant 4-0 win over Juventus, further boosting his profile.

Should a transfer take place, both Boca and River Plate—where Retegui spent formative years—would receive training compensation under FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, as was the case when he moved from Genoa to Atalanta. For now, Juventus continues to monitor Italy’s most prolific striker as they weigh their options for bolstering the squad.
