Juventus and Roma Target Argentina’s Balerdi After Strong International Showing

Leonardo Balerdi’s stock continues to rise. The 26-year-old center-back started alongside Cristian Romero in Argentina’s recent World Cup qualifier against Chile, impressing with his composure and positioning. A key figure and current captain at Olympique de Marseille, Balerdi may soon make a move to Serie A.
According to reports in Italy, both Juventus and Roma are monitoring the Argentine defender. Juve’s interest is driven in part by Igor Tudor, who coached Balerdi at Marseille in the 2022–23 season, and is supported by executives like Damien Comolli. Balerdi also holds an Italian passport, which eases any potential move under league regulations.
Roma is also in the mix, with new manager Gian Piero Gasperini a long-time admirer of the defender from his Atalanta days. The Giallorossi maintain a solid relationship with Marseille, which could facilitate negotiations.
Still, Balerdi remains a key part of Marseille’s plans under new coach Roberto De Zerbi. Whether the French club will consider a sale in the current window remains uncertain.
