Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær revealed that he advised the club to sign Erling Haaland when the Norwegian striker was with Red Bull Salzburg.

"Molde sold him to Salzburg but after he didn’t play for them for three or four months, I said to Man United: just sign him now!” He had a release clause for €20m. It would have been a bargain", – disclosed Solskjaer in an interview with The Athletic.

Solskjaer, who was the head coach of the Norwegian team Molde at the time, recommended Haaland to the club when the striker was still playing for Molde, paving the way for Haaland's entry into top-tier football.

"The summer before I got to Man United I rang them and said: you’ve got to sign Erling Haaland. He will be top. Absolutely top class. It was July 2018".

Ultimately, Haaland moved from Red Bull Salzburg to Borussia Dortmund for 20 million euros plus bonuses. During his stint with the German club, he scored 86 goals in 89 matches, before making a transfer to Manchester City for 60 million euros in the summer of 2022.

While at Salzburg, the Norwegian striker played in only 27 matches but netted 29 goals. During his inaugural Champions League group stage, he showcased his prowess by scoring 8 goals in 6 matches.
