Just In: Jimmy Anderson Set to Retire at 44 After Lancashire Decide Against New Contract
England cricket legend James Anderson is reportedly preparing to retire from professional cricket at the age of 44 after Lancashire decided not to offer him a new contract for the 2027 season.
Anderson continued playing for Lancashire after being forced to retire from international cricket by England in 2024, extending his career at county level.
The veteran fast bowler captained Lancashire in the County Championship last season, finishing the campaign with 50 wickets at an average of 17. His tally placed him among just seven bowlers in Division Two to reach the 50-wicket mark.
Despite Anderson's impressive individual numbers, Lancashire endured a difficult season, finishing second from bottom in Division Two.
According to reports, Anderson was informed of the club's decision during a meeting on Monday with incoming director of cricket Paul Farbrace and chief executive Richard Kenyon.
The decision has now cast uncertainty over the future of the experienced seamer, who is reportedly more likely to bring his playing career to an end than seek a contract with another county.
