Harry Kane's historic Ballon d'Or triumph was reportedly decided by an incredibly small margin! New information suggests that the Bayern Munich superstar defeated Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe by just 28 points, making the 2026 edition one of the tightest contests in the award's history.

Details: According to Kalshi FC, only 28 points separated Kane and Mbappe in the final voting. The English striker claimed the prestigious trophy on October 26, with Mbappe finishing second and Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal third. However, the exact 28-point figure has not yet been independently confirmed through an official voting breakdown.

France Football editor-in-chief Vincent Garcia had already revealed that the difference was smaller than the 41-point margin separating Rodri and Vinicius Junior in 2024. He also explained that Mbappe led the voting for a significant period before Kane caught up during the final stages of the process.

Kane's victory followed an extraordinary campaign in which he scored 73 goals for club and country. The England captain helped Bayern retain the Bundesliga title and enjoyed another prolific Champions League season. His achievements ultimately convinced enough journalists to award him football's biggest individual prize.

The voting system involves journalists from 100 countries, each selecting their ten best players. A first-place vote earns 15 points, with fewer points awarded for lower positions. Kane became the first Englishman to win the Ballon d'Or since Michael Owen in 2001, while Mbappe was left narrowly missing out on his first trophy.

Reminder: Official: Harry Kane wins the 2026 Ballon d'Or, becoming the first English winner in 25 years.
