Barcelona has identified an affordable option to significantly strengthen the heart of their defense.

Details: According to Sport, the Catalan club has begun working on the transfer of Athletic defender Aymeric Laporte. Barcelona representatives have already reached out to the 32-year-old's entourage, with a new round of negotiations set for this week. The release clause for the player is less than €15 million.

Reports indicate that Laporte is positive about the potential transfer and does not rule out a return to Barcelona, where he could become an experienced partner for Pau Cubarsí at the heart of the defense.

Now, both parties need to discuss the financial terms of a possible deal. The affordable release clause makes the Spaniard’s candidacy especially attractive for the Catalans, who are still seeking to bolster their defensive line.

It’s worth noting that Laporte returned to Athletic from Al-Nassr in September 2025 and signed a contract with the Basque club until June 30, 2028.

Reminder: Changed their minds? Barcelona want to keep their forward.
