Julian Altobelli is quickly becoming one of the most dangerous attackers in the Canadian Premier League. With six goals and one assist in just seven matches, the 22-year-old striker has cemented his role as York United’s new focal point and an early frontrunner for the Golden Boot.

Returning to the club after a prolific 2024 with Toronto FC II, where he set a club scoring record, Altobelli needed just a minute in his CPL debut to find the net. He added another before the final whistle, introducing a now-iconic Dybala-inspired celebration. Since then, he’s been on fire.

Under new coach Mauro Eustáquio, York have adopted a fluid, attacking philosophy that suits Altobelli’s game perfectly. Whether leading the line or drifting wide, the forward thrives in the space and unpredictability the system creates. “The freedom to shoot, to attack—that's something I really enjoy,” he said.

While his individual form has soared, the team has struggled to maintain leads. York has dropped 11 points from winning positions despite showing promising spells in every match. Still, Altobelli is optimistic: “We believe in our system and our coaching staff. If we can carry our strong starts through a full 90, we’ll be in a great place.”

Next up is a nationally televised match on May 31 against Halifax Wanderers in Québec City, part of the CPL on Tour series. For Altobelli, it’s another chance to shine and bring more fans into the league. Through just one month, he’s proven he’s ready for the spotlight.
