Juan Escobar Close to Return to Paraguayan Football, Three Top Clubs Interested
Paraguayan defender Juan Escobar is nearing a return to his home country after a short stint with Spain’s second-tier side Castellón. According to journalist Andrés Rolón from Nación Media, Escobar is close to sealing a deal with one of Paraguay’s top three clubs: Olimpia, Cerro Porteño, or Libertad.
Escobar, who played just nine matches in Spain, had also attracted interest from clubs in Brazil and Mexico. However, the 29-year-old appears inclined to return home, where he previously made a strong impression during his time at Cerro. That history could weigh in his decision, though both Olimpia and Libertad are also pushing hard in the current transfer window.
The final decision is expected over the weekend. Escobar, a former Cruz Azul standout and multi-title winner in Liga MX, would be a high-profile signing for any of the suitors, bringing leadership and international experience to the backline.
His return would be a significant reinforcement for Paraguayan football, signaling a homecoming for a player who has already proven his quality across several top leagues.
