José Rivero reveals the latest clashes on the pitch!
Orlando Pirates' Spanish coach, Jose Rivero, spoke about the violence and mayhem that took place on the field after his team's match with MC Alger in the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarterfinals on Wednesday evening, April 9.
The unfortunate thing is that the situation developed into a lot of kicking and hitting between players on the pitch while the rest of the players hid away from the chaos, while Rivero was in charge of calming things down on his side of the field.
Things got even more heated after the match ended in a goalless draw in Soweto and the Algerian team was eliminated from the tournament after losing the first leg 1-0.
What did Jose Rivero have to say about the unfortunate events?
Speaking about the unfortunate events, Rivero strongly criticized them, expressing his sadness about what happened between the fans and the security personnel in the stands.
“I don't really know what happened Maybe we'll go to space to find out who started the fight. I think it doesn't matter for me, for us or for my group; soccer is something special. It's something that can't be sullied by this kind of behavior, which is unacceptable.
“Whatever happened, maybe everyone was making mistakes out there, but these behaviors should be as far away as possible from this kind of scene, away from the sport because we don't really need it. We have to learn how to win, we have to learn how to lose, we have to accept the result, whatever the result is.”
Again, I don't really know what happened because I was sitting on the bench when it all started. I was trying to make sense of what we had achieved just a few seconds before, and suddenly everything was a mess in front of me,
