Jose Mourinho is eager for Roma to sign a new central defender

Roma's head coach, José Mourinho, is concerned about Chris Smalling's injury and wishes for the club to acquire a new central defender, as reported by Calciomercato.

According to sources, Smalling is still recovering from a patellar tendon injury, and there is currently no estimated date for the English footballer's return. He has not played since September 1, and the club is employing conservative treatment without resorting to surgery.

Given this situation, Roma's head coach, José Mourinho, is troubled by the matter and wants the club to sign a new central defender in the winter transfer window. The preferred option is Eric Dier from Tottenham, who has featured in two matches for Spurs this season.

Recall that on August 30, 2019, Smalling joined Roma on loan, and on October 5, 2020, he signed a permanent three-year contract with the club. In 2022, Smalling played a key role in helping Roma secure victory in the inaugural UEFA Europa Conference League, including the final against Feyenoord (1-0), where he was named the best player.

In August 2014, Dier transferred to English club Tottenham Hotspur for four million pounds. He made his Premier League debut on August 16, 2014, scoring the only goal in a match against West Ham United, securing victory for his team.
