Barcelona and Bayern could sign Bayer's star defender Jonathan Tah for free
Defender Jonathan Tah will leave Bayer Leverkusen in the summer as a free agent. The player and the club failed to reach an agreement on a new contract.
Details. According to German outlet BILD, the 28-year-old is not willing to extend his deal with the Leverkusen-based club. As a result, he will become a free agent in the summer of 2025.
The leading contenders for the central defender’s signature are Bayern Munich and Barcelona, both of whom have shown long-standing interest in the German international. Real Madrid and several top Serie A clubs, including Inter Milan, are also keeping tabs on Tah. A free transfer for the player is set to become a priority for many of Europe’s elite clubs.
Reminder. Jonathan Tah has been with Bayer Leverkusen since 2015, making 370 appearances for the club. He also played a pivotal role in their success last season, when Xabi Alonso’s team won the Bundesliga title and lifted the DFB-Pokal (German Cup).
