John Heitinga could become Tottenham’s interim manager
Following the dismissal of Thomas Frank, Tottenham’s management has shifted its focus to finding an interim manager, with John Heitinga emerging as the leading candidate for the role. The former Netherlands international defender only joined the London club’s coaching staff last month, making the move from Liverpool, where he worked under Arne Slot.
Details: According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham sees John Heitinga as someone capable of stabilizing the situation until the end of the season. The decision to consider Heitinga is largely based on the fact that he is already integrated into the club’s structure and is familiar with the squad—an absolutely crucial factor in the fight for Premier League survival.
Reports indicate that, despite his mixed results during his previous stint as Ajax’s head coach, the Spurs hierarchy believes his Dutch football education and recent experience at Liverpool could inject fresh energy into the team ahead of a decisive run of fixtures.
If the appointment goes ahead, Heitinga will need to assemble a new backroom staff at short notice, as most of Frank’s assistants are set to leave the club. The 42-year-old does, however, have a slight advantage: with a break in the fixture calendar, the squad will not return to training until Monday. This gives Heitinga a window to prepare the team for his debut in the high-stakes North London derby against Arsenal.
Reminder: Wilson Odobert has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a serious injury.
