James Rodríguez Set for Club World Cup Move Amid León Uncertainty
Despite the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Club León’s eligibility for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, James Rodríguez appears poised to feature in the tournament regardless of his current club’s fate. As reported by Futbolred, León awaits a ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport after FIFA excluded them over a conflict of interest due to shared ownership with fellow qualifiers Pachuca.
However, James is unlikely to miss out. According to TUDN, Pachuca is already planning to sign the Colombian midfielder should León’s appeal fail. Colombian journalist Alexis Rodríguez added that the Martínez family, owners of both León and Pachuca, have already assured the former Real Madrid star that he will play in the competition.
FIFA is expected to open a special transfer window ahead of the Club World Cup, which would allow the move to happen smoothly. If completed, James could face his former club, Real Madrid, as Pachuca are drawn in Group H alongside the reigning European champions. With that, James’s return to the global stage seems all but certain—just not in the shirt he originally expected.
