Two-time Herediano champion Jafet Soto offered his thoughts on Costa Rica’s group for the upcoming continental tournament, where La Sele will face Honduras, Haiti, and Nicaragua. Speaking to local media, Soto emphasized the balance across all groups and the unique challenges posed by each opponent.

“Haiti plays joyful football, influenced by both Latin and European styles—you have to be careful. Nicaragua is on the rise; I saw them against Panama and it won’t be easy. And Honduras… there’s always a lot of history between us,” said the former national team midfielder, underlining the emotional weight of the Central American derby.

On that particular matchup, Soto was clear: “Two Central American powerhouses playing for a direct ticket.” He also praised the atmosphere that often surrounds these encounters: “Whether it’s World Cup qualifiers or the Central American Cup, the stadiums in San Pedro Sula or Tegucigalpa always come alive.”

Costa Rica will open against Nicaragua, then face Haiti, and close the group stage against Honduras—a clash that could decide who advances in what promises to be a tightly contested group with classic regional flavor.
