Norwegian athlete Jakob Ingebrigtsen set a new world record in the 3000-meter race today, surpassing a long-standing achievement by more than three seconds at the Silesia Diamond League event.

Ingebrigtsen finished the race in 7 minutes 17.55 seconds, breaking the record held by Kenyan Daniel Komen, which had stood since 1996 when he ran the distance in 7:20.67 in Rieti, Italy. This record was the longest-standing in men's athletics among individual events.

The 23-year-old Norwegian was stunned when he crossed the finish line and saw his time, grabbing his head in disbelief. Ingebrigtsen received a check for $50,000 and posed with it in front of the scoreboard displaying his time.

"It's a special feeling, simply incredible. I hoped to break the world record, but based on my preparation, I couldn't accurately predict what time I was capable of," he said.

Additionally, three days ago, the Norwegian took a small revenge on American Cole Hocker, winning the 1500-meter race in Lausanne with a time of 3:27.83, two weeks after Hocker shocked the Olympic community by winning gold at the Paris Olympics.
