Iwobi’s Post Sparks Outrage Over Super Eagles’ Hotel Condition in Morocco Soccer24

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has stirred controversy online after posting photos showing the poor condition of the team’s hotel in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff against Gabon.

The Fulham star arrived in camp on Sunday alongside several teammates and officials, including Samuel Chukwueze, Calvin Bassey, William Troost-Ekong, Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon, Tolu Arokodare, and Olakunle Olusegun. The squad is currently lodged at the Rive Hotel in Rabat, where full training sessions are expected to begin on Monday.

Iwobi’s social media post, showing the deteriorating state and surroundings of the team’s accommodation, quickly went viral and drew widespread criticism. Many fans expressed disappointment at what they described as poor treatment and lack of proper planning for the national team.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has yet to release an official statement, but the development has reignited debate over player welfare, logistics, and preparation standards for international tournaments.

Nigeria advanced to the playoff stage after finishing second in Group C, following a convincing 4-0 win over Benin Republic in Uyo. The Super Eagles will now face Gabon in the semifinal clash, with the winner progressing to play either DR Congo or Cameroon. A victory in the final round would secure Nigeria a place in the intercontinental playoffs for a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
